Two Types of Extremes in our Communities and Circles

All the praise due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds [ mankind and jinn and all that exists ], He who made the Muslims Beloved Brothers to each other. And I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah Alone without associating partners in worship with Him. The True and Only King. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger the truthful and trustworthy one may Allah send upon him peace and blessing and upon his family and his companions and those who follow after them, send him all of the best greetings. O people fear Allah the Most High and know that Allah made the Believers beloved brothers from the first of the creation to the last of creation.

” Our Lord! forgive us and those of our brethren who had precedence of us in faith, and do not allow any spite to remain in our hearts towards those who believe, our Lord! surely Thou art Kind, Merciful.”

, Al-Hashr 59:10

And what follows: I’ve noticed there a few types of brothers and sisters from our circles, in our current time that two have extremes with them. I will mention only three that needs addressing.

1. The first type is those brothers who spend their time saying Shaykh so and so said this and said that ( related to a Mathab or Hizb {their group, clique, Organisation,  party, or followers of such}, or Shaykh’s refutations, and hearsay), and the statement of those from his camp. Those who come together (unite) under the statements of this one scholar or group, and neglect what is in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger sallahu wa alayhi wa salam who is infallible for the statements of the one who is fallible.

2. The second type is those brothers and sisters who spend their time refuting those of the first type, so much so, they spend equal time on the same subject, trying to rectify it but in the end, they don’t. Some cases they also fall into sins (geebah and nameemah backbiting and gossip and slandering and fault finding etc) or hizbi groups that spend their time hating and rejecting the latter type due to their incorrect understanding. This type also ends up rejecting the Sunnah in some cases due to them being engrossed with the first type and not with seeking knowledge. In some case joining groups and cliques and people who have the same view are against the First Type, but these people also are in the opposition against the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger Sallahu wa alayhi wa salam ( shirk and bidah, and backbiting and gossiping).

3. The third type is those who stick to the book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah sallahu alyhi wa salam from the understanding of his companions, then the Tabeeoon and those scholars who came after them upon taqwaaa up into the scholars of our time, who are on their same path. Because this dawah is not united under no particular madhab or statements of a particular scholar, or scholars but united under the banner of the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger sallahu wa alayhi wa salam. Because this call will rectify those from the First type and Second type but few understand.

First and Second also abandon seeking knowledge from the correct way, due to being busy with hearsay, and following personalities and blind following and bigotry due to the lack of knowledge, the lack of knowledge leads to little righteous actions.

Second type needs to realize that our dawah is the Dawah of Qast’ ( justice and upright) which leads to the third type who are upon the understanding of Islam from the Messenger of Allah sallahu wa alyhi wa salam and his companions who Allah choose and  pleased with them and they are pleased with Allah for they are the Party of Allah, and the Party of Allah is successful.

For the second type needs to be  busy with knowledge and following the sunnah, and following the sunnah you learn how to deal with the First Type that is by recommending one another to the truth, as ordain by Allah, and not being harsh, impatience, and falling into sins like gossip and backbiting, and carrying hearsay, trying to rectified the first type but rather yet falling into sins. When someone harmed, (by the latter group), or upset when seeing wrongdoing, even if he attacked and they lied, or slander, or backbite you, or they are guloo, or biases and with bigotry upon blinding following their group and clique. Our dawah is having sabr and calling to the truth with wisdom and baseerah. Not to become harsh and guloo with trying to rectify the situation with backbiting and lying and tales carrying and targeting all these methods as efforts to reply back to the first type. But with Sabir, Allah the Most High said in Surah Asr:

1 وَالْعَصْرِ

2 إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ

3 إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

1 By Al-‘Asr (the time).
2 Verily, man is in loss, 3 Except those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth [i.e. order one another to perform all kinds of good deeds (Al-Ma’ruf) which Allah has ordained, and abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds (Al-Munkar which Allah has forbidden], and recommend one another to patience (for the sufferings, harms, and injuries which one may encounter in Allah’s Cause during preaching His religion of Islamic Monotheism or Jihad).

So we rectify these situations with being just and upright and being upon the Book of Allah, Glorified is He and following the Sunnah of His Messenger, who is Noble Mustafa (the chosen one) Muhammad Sallahu wa alayhi wa salam. Now for the first type, that the Jammah of Ahul Sunnah is not establishing by the statement of a particular scholar or mathab.

Shaykh Salih al Fawzan may Allah preserve him said in the Sharh of Usool Sunnah that the Jammat is not establishing except by two conditions:

First Condition: That the Jammah’s methodology is from the Book of Allah and the Sunnah and not the methodology of the Mathab of so and so, neither the statement of so and so, but from the Book of Allah (Quran) and Sunnah ( way of the Messenger of Allah sallahu wa alyhi wa salam).

Second Condition: That there be for the Jammah a leader of the Muslim to steer the Jammah, and us returning to him and that there is no Jammah except with a leader…

Then he حفظه الله said further:

“if there is no Jammah from Hadeeth Hudheefah radillahu anhu ‘ تعتزل تلك الفرق ‘ ‘leave off groups’ he order that he separates off groups for that is not a group except  the Jammah of the Muslims and there is no Jammaaat (groups) other than the Jammah of the Muslims rather it be him alone on the truth until death meets and he is upon that (way).” end of quote.

May Allah bless us with the wisdom of our scholars, and allow us to establish this Deen upon the Quran and Sunnah free from desires and astray paths.
