Those Who Think Criticizing Individual is Part of Seeking

Knowledge

Question: May Allah reward you with good. There is collected a group of questions connected to personalities and groups (organization ) and like this, we need from your Eminence to direct it for some of the small seekers of knowledge?

Shaykh’s Answer: Those whom the first of what they begin with in learning knowledge, they begin with the events and sayings in these affairs –  is (it apparent) so and so in him is this and in him is that?!#!  This is a Fitnah (trial, tribulation) of speech in the people. And the speech of criticizing of people and their mistakes and in particular from the beginner (of seeking knowledge). That you hinder him from pursuing knowledge and possibility you block him from pursuing knowledge (turn him off from seeking knowledge altogether).  So he hates this guy and that guy. So he abstains himself from seeking knowledge. This is a Fitnah, and it is obligatory that you stay away from Fitnah. It’s obligatory for the youth that he is directed to seek knowledge and he does not listen to the people’s speech about so and so or so and so is this.

The first thing that is disliked towards it ( the type of speech) he seeks it for knowledge and he increases in it as seeking knowledge.

Second that he errs by this and it is that one’s entire attention is taken off so and so and the criticism of so and so he is preoccupied with this as seeking knowledge and he errs by this. So he is sorrowful in his directions in seeking knowledge so do not listen to this tails carrying (all type of hearsay and gossip) and sayings.

A question and answer from Dr. Shaykh Salih bin Fawzan bin Abdullah al Fawzan may Allah Preserve him.
