Is it Okay to Sit with a Shaykh Who Learned from Books Only?
Question: May Allah bless you, O honorable Shaykh. The questioner asks: “Is it permissible to seek knowledge from a Shaykh who did not seek knowledge from scholars but only from books?”

Answer: Masha’Allah, knowledge has become so easy, just from books (only wow)! So this person who falls into misguidance, error, and misunderstanding due to depending on books only should not be taken as a mentor or followed (do not take knowledge from him). Yes, he is a Muta’alim (pseudo-scholar, unqualified), not a scholar.
