A. What nullifies the fast, and the obligation of Al-Qada [ making up the fasts].
- Eating and Drinking intentionally.
Regarding forgetful eating his fast is correct, there is no Al-Qada on him accordance to the Hadeeth of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, that the Prophet sallalahu wa alyhi wa salam said: ” He who eats or drinks forgetfully while fasting complete the fast, indeed Allah feed him and gave him to drink.” It is narration al-Jamaah.
- Purging [intentionally vomiting].
The one who is overpower with vomiting [not by his choose, due to some illness] there is no Al-Qada on him, for the Hadeeth Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu that the Prophet sallalahu wa alyhi wa salam said: “The one who uncontrollable vomits [ not by his choose/or intention, due to some illness] it is not upon him Al-Qada. And he who purges [intentionally vomits] for [Al-Qada] he must make up his fast.” Narrated by Ahmed, Abu Dawud, and At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibaan and Ad-Darqate and Al-Hakim authenticated it. And Agreed Upon by all the Ulimaa.
- Al-Haid [menstruation] and An-Nifas [post natal bleeding].
Al-Haid [menstruation] and An-Nifas [post natal bleeding]. If the Al-Haid, and An-Nifas at the late moment before the sun sets [al-Qada is a most]. The scholars unanimously agree upon this.
Concerning the non-obligation of the fasting [free from fasting], on the woman afflicted with Al-Haid and An-Nifas. So the Hadeeth related to this: Abu Saeed radi Allahu anhu said: ” the Prophet sallahu wa alyhi wa salam said: ‘Does not the [ woman] afflicted with menses fast and pray?!{ No}, For those two reasons [menses and postnatal bleeding] she is weak in her deen.” Saheeh. She cannot perform the fard like praying and fasting until she becomes pure, free from menses.
So the fast of the one afflicted with menses or natal bleeding, it is not permissible. Because the conditions to fast are being pure and clean from Al-Haid and An-Nifas and it is an obligation on them two Al-Qada.
Narrated by Aisha radi Allahu anha said: “We were afflicted with menstruation on the authority of Allah’s Messenger sallahu wa alyhi wa salam we were ordered to Al-Qada [make up the fast] and not to make up the Salah”. Saheeh
- The release of Al-Mane [Sperm].
The release of Al-Mane [sperm], from other than sexual intercourse for the reason of kissing one’s spouse, or fondling or other than that. Concerning wet dreams, it does not corrupt one’s fast.
Ash-Shaykh Salih bin Fawzan bin Abdullah al-Fawzan hafidhullah said in al-Mulakis al-fiqhi:
The releasing of sperm: for the reason of kissing, touching [fondling] or ejaculation, or being aroused. If this happens it corrupts the fasting person fast. And on him is Al-Qada only without Kaffrah [ atonement, fined], because the Kaffrah is for the one who has a sexual relationship during the day hours of the fast. If a person has a wet dream, for there is nothing upon him and his fast is correct. Because that falls under without a choose [not intended] the sperm releases due[ to the wet dream]. And on him is making Ghusal [ Islamic bath] of Janabah [sexual impurities].
B. What Nullifies the fast, and the obligation of Al-Qada [make up the fast] and Kaffarah [making atonement for uttering committing an unlawful thing in Islam]” That is a person perform intercourse.
In the Hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu said:
” A man [Salma bin Sakhir] came to the Prophet sallalahu wa alayhi wa salam and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I am ruined.’ He replied, ‘I had intercourse with m wife during Ramadan.’ He then asked him:
‘ Can you free a slave?’
He said ‘No!’ He asked:
‘Can you fast two consecutive months?’
He said ‘No!’ He asked:
‘Can you provide food for sixty poor people?’
He said ‘No!’ He then sat down. Meanwhile, an Araq [ a basket containing thirty Saa’ of dates] containing dates was brought to the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam. He said:
‘Give this as Sadaqa’.
The man said, ‘ Am I to give to the one who is more poorer than we are? There is no family between the two mountains of Al- Madinah- more in need of it than mine.’ The Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam thereupon laughed till his premolar teeth appeared. He then said, ‘ Go and feed your family with it’.”
Narrated al Jamaa’ah and the Narration Ibn Maja and Abu Dawud: -At the position of the day is discredit and the fast is lost, it must be repeated.
And Kaffarah [making atonement] in the accordance the order mention in the Hadeeth that all scholars Agreed Upon.
C.What nullifies the fast, and the obligation of Al-Qada [ making up the fasts].
From Al-Mulakis Al-Fiqh from Ash-Shaykh Salih bin Fawzan bin Abdullah al-Fawzan hafiduhu allah
From what breaks the fast:
-Receiving water and that which is similar to it [i.e. nose drops] in the inner path of the nose, it is snuffing.
{Narrated Laqit bin Sabra radi Allahu anhu: Allah’s Messenger sallahu wa alayhi wa salam said:” Perform a perfect wudu [ablution], run [your fingers] through the fingers of the hands as well as between the toes, and sniff water up well inside the nose unless you are fasting.” Reported by Al-Arbaa, and Ibn Khuzaima graded it Saheeh [authentic]. In another narration, Abu Dawud has: ” If you perform ablution, then rinse your mouth.”
-To take nutrition from the path of the vein or an injection [shot] for the fasting person. All of this corrupts his fast because it is nutrition for him.
From that also: the injection [shot] from the one who is fasting with the shot of nutrition, for verily it establishes food and that corrupts the fast.
Concerning the shot other than nutrition:
For it is obliged for the fasting person also that he stays away from it, and protect his fast, for the statement of the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam: ” leave off what you doubt for what you do not doubt”. Narrated by At-Tirmidhi and An-Nisae, and Ahmed and Ibn Khazeenah and Ibn Hibaan from the Hadeeth of Al-Hassan bin Ali radi Allahu anhuma. Delay the shot to the night.
-Taking blood from the body: with cupping or bleeding [a lot] or withdrawing blood for donating for an emergency ambulance or for the ill [ in the hospital]. So all this breaks the fast.
Regarding taking a little blood such as blood taken for analyzing [blood test], so this does not affect the fasting person. And like this blood drawn from other than one’s choose like a nose bleed, womb, extracting [or losing] one’s teeth, for this does not affect the fast.
D. What is Disliked to do While Fasting.
Narrated Laqit bin Sabra radi Allahu anhu: Allah’s Messenger sallahu wa alayhi wa salam said:” Perform a perfect wudu [ablution], run [your fingers] through the fingers of the hands as well as between the toes, and sniff water up well inside the nose unless you are fasting.” Reported by Al-Arbaa, and Ibn Khuzaima graded it Saheeh [authentic]. In another narration, Abu Dawud has: ” If you perform ablution, then rinse your mouth”.
Some difference of opinions on what Nullifies one’s fasting:’ Cupping ‘:
Narrated Shaddad bin Aus radi Allahu anhu: The Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam came across a man in Al-Baqi who was being cupped in Ramadan. He said, ” the one who cups and the one who is cupped have broken their fasts.” Reported by Al-Khamsa except for At-Tirmidhi, Ahmad, Ibn Khuzaima and Ibn Hibban graded it Saheeh [authentic].
Narrated Anas radi Allahu anhu: The first time when cupping for one who is fasting- was disapproved was when: Jafar bin Abi Talib had himself cupped while he was fasting; the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam came across him and said, ” Both of these have broken their fasts.” Afterward, the Prophet sallahu wa alyhi wa salam allowed cupping for one who is fasting. Anas used to have himself cupped when he was fasting. Ad-Daraqutni reported it and declared it to be Qawiy [strong].
As to the matter of undesirability, the cupping does not invalidate fasting according to the Majority of the Ulamaa [scholars] but the same is the weakness, which in turn may force someone into breaking his fast. But in case someone is strong enough to withstand any suck weakness or drowsiness resulting from the cupping, then the ruling concerning its undesirability is ineffective, From Subul-us-Salam.
As-Shaykh Abdul Azeez bin Baz rahimahullah was asked this question:
What is the Ruling on the usage of the needle [ shot] in the vein, and the needle [shot] in the muscle. And what is the difference between that for the one fasting?
Answer: the correct position is that those two examples do not break the fast. Indeed that which breaks the fast is the shot that has nutrients specifically. Like this taking blood for testing, it does not break the fast. Because it is not like cupping. Regarding cupping it breaks the fasts of the one who is cupped and the one who cups, from the authentic statements of the Scholars regarding the saying of the Messenger of Allah sallahu wa alyhi wa salam: ” the one who cups and the one who is cupped have broken their fasts.”.
