Difference between a real Scholar and a Fake Scholar Q&A by Shaykh Salih ibn Abdullah Al Fawzan.

Question: How does a student of knowledge differentiate in these times where there are much trials and tribulations between al A’alim the scholar and Muta’aalim ( fake scholar) in perhaps to take knowledge from it’s people?

Answer: the scholars are known and they are not hidden and the people know who they are and they return to them and they follow their models ( esamples) and a Scholar is clear/known (who he is and his background) he is not hidden. The Mutaalim (fake scholar) it’s clear who he is, he is a person who did not studied with the Ulimaa he did not take knowledge from the scholars this is a Mutaalim fake scholar. That he the Mutaalim is restricted to books, reading books only this is a Mutaalim fake scholar. This is not an A’alim (scholar) who you don’t know who are his scholars it’s imperative to know who is his Scholars who are they, and to know where did he take his knowledge from.

Knowledge is like lineage whoever does not have a scholar this is a Laqeet this is named Laqeet the child who does not know his father is (a child the people don’t know who is the father or parents). This issue is simple obtain knowledge from it’s scholars who are known for having knowledge and being steadfast with his knowledge and act upon it.”

الجواب:ـ العلماء معروفون ما هم خَفِيّين، يعرفهم الناس ويرجعون إليهم ويقتدون بهم، العالِم بيِّن ليس بخفيٍّ والمُتَعَالِم بيِّن، الذي ما دَرَسَ على العلماء ولا أخذ العلم عن العلماء هذا مُتَعَالِم، الذي يقتصِر على الكُتُب وقراءة الكُتُب هذا مُتَعَالِم، ما يكون عالِمً مَنْ لا يُعْرَف مشايخه لا بد يعرف مشايخه مَنْ هم ومِن أين أخذ العلم، العلم مثل النسب ، والذي ليس له مشايخ هذا لقيط يُسَمُّونه لقيطًا.المسألة ما هي بسهلة، تلقِّي العلم ما هو بسهل، لابد مِن تَلَّقِي العلم عن العلماء المعروفين به المستقيمين عليه الذين يعملون به.
