Gov. Andrew Cuomo sounded his most dire warning yet about the coronavirus pandemic Tuesday, saying the infection rate in New York is accelerating and the state could be as close as two weeks away from a crisis that sees 40,000 people in intensive care. Such a surge would overwhelm hospitals, which now have just 3,000 intensive care unit beds statewide. (AP Photo/John Minchillo)

For those Muslims in New York five boroughs. Yesterday there was a Tele Conference for Imams with the Attorney General of Brooklyn and Queens office with Monica Abend Deputy Director of Intergiv Affair for Brooklyn and Queens.

The conference was for questions related to the Muslim community in the Coronavirus lockdown as the lockdown will take place during Ramadaan and Eid.

In the Q & A session, I can honestly say a majority of Masjids Boards and those who represented the Masjids in the New York area questions, they were upset that they can not collect donations from the masjids’ community that are lockdown and frustrated highly about this. None of the questions asked by the Muslim community were about the well being of the Muslims in large or their health or safety during this lockdown. I only heard CAIR chapter in NY asked about the well being of the Muslims the poor the homeless and the vulnerable and those prisoners lock-up how will the state protect them.

Jamaica Muslim Center who has the biggest Muslim community in New York (and North America) asked about the well being of the Muslims in their community related to jobs and lost income of its members and protecting Uber/Taxi drivers. Some of the Indo community concerns are about the well being of Muslims and those Muslim doctors whom offices are running out of medical supply as they are at the front line of Coronavirus due to the hospitals are overrun with patients and the doctors want to protect their staff and those patients and their family members because their PCP is whom many of them visit before going to the hospitals. One person from this group also asked when will the Mayor of New York address the community with a video Vlog.

I am sad to say the Arab Muslim community questions were tantrums about following the governor of New York lockdown and closing the places of worship but due to that they can not collect money from its members and they are very upset with the Governor. Also, some were very upset and asked the question since they can not collect donations from their community because they can not gather in the masjids, so how will they pay their mortgages for the masjids and pay their masjids’ staff. One of the questioners from this group was upset about the lockdown and not able to collect donations was a Director who claims he represents 90 masjids in New York. He was only concerned about masjids not able to collect donations no questions from them about the well being and health of the Muslims in their community.

None of their questions were directed to the Governer or Mayor or the Attorney General of Brooklyn and Queens protecting the Muslims community at large from the Coronavirus quarantine except those that I mention.

I would say after hearing that is showed me that many masjids in New York are not concern about the Muslims well-being and see its members in its community as income only. None of these masjids asked when any relief for praying inside the masjid will come neither were they concern about Salah in the masjid but upset they can not gather to collect donations.

I ask Allah to give us better Muslim leaders and board members in our community who are concern about our well being not how much money we can donate to them.
