All the praise is to Allah and peace and blessing be upon His Messenger.

An issue inside of Ramadan a fiqh view people who are Ramadaians and other than them confuses taking Nawafil as Fard and Fard as Nawafil, from the incorrect ijtihad of the layman Muslim.

Many see salah that is Nawafil (voluntary no sin if you leave it off) as Fard ( obligatory and a sin if you leave it off) such as the Salatu Taraweeh in the congregation in Ramadan which is voluntary, and there another acceptable view that Salatu Taraweeh is made at home. But Ramadaians only pray it in the congregation, and they leave off the fard Salah in the congregation or do not pray it at all.

But many Ramadanaians (those who practice Islam only in Ramadan) and other similar to them leave off the Fard Salah inside of Ramadan and outside of Ramadan.

When Ramadan is over many of those Ramadaians leave off that which is Nawafil and that which is Fard all together. Such as the Sunnah before Fajr which is two rakats and the Fajr salah, that the Prophet (ﷺ) always prayed. ‘Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The two Rak’ah before the dawn (Fajr) prayer are better than this world and all it contains.” [Muslim]

After Ramadan, these individuals leave off Tahajjud which in Ramadan is called Taraweeh.

For some of the Muslim women in Ramadan, they switch the rulings between Fard and Sunnah (Nawafil) so the women will cook to feed the fasting person to receive the reward this action is not fard to do but its rewards is much and it is voluntary, if she does not feed the hungry there is no sin on her.

It was narrated that Zayd ibn Khaalid al-Juhani said: The Messenger of Allaah(ﷺ) said: “Whoever gives iftaar to one who is fasting will have a reward like his, without that detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest.”

Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 807; Ibn Maajah, 1746. Classed as saheeh by Ibn Hibaan, 8/216 and by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami, 6415.

But in Ramadan, she would leave off the Fard salah because she is overwhelmed with cooking for the fasting people to have food to break their fast. This is incorrect ijtihad of the laymen Muslim.

Jabir bin Abdullah says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying this: The difference between a man (Muslim) and shirk and kufr is the abandoning of salaah.

(Sahih Muslim: Kitab ul Iman: Book 001, Number 0147)

Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) said: The difference between us and them (Kuffar/Non-Muslims) is that of salaah so whoever abandons salaah certainly commits kufr.

(Tirmidhi, kitab ul Iman, Declared Sahih by Imam Tirmidhi, Imam Nasai and Allama Iraqi, Minhaaj ul Muslimeen pg.80)

Many of there miscellaneous’ actions and conflicting ijtihad outside of Ramadan is leaving off the Fard Salah but pray the Jummah salah on Friday only, thinking Allah will pardon you for not praying the fard during the week.

Other issues as:

• Do not give charity except in Ramadan
• Do not read or listen to the Quran only in Ramadan
• Do not socialize with Muslims only in Ramadan
• Do not pray except in Ramadan
• Do not wear Hijab except in Ramadan

One of the most well-known issues of the Ramadanians they only visit the masjid in Ramadan if they visit the masjid outside of Ramadan is for his or her own Janazah.

We ask Allah the Most High to forgive us and pardon us and to guide us to the straight path and make us uphold it until we reach yaqeen, Ameen.
