Q&A The ruling on inquisitiveness supposition about a particular event and inquiring about it. By Shaykh Abdul Azeez bin Baz
Question: Also his second question is, which he states: I indeed hear these two sayings which are said ” you don’t presume (think deeply) about a particular event and you don’t inquire about it perhaps you will be afflicted by it” is this saying correct?
Answer: There is no harm in this but leave off firstly the suppositions, because the Muslim works with the reality (things that are clear and known) and he is diligent knowing the reality until he knows the ruling of Allah about it. But something that is not clear and that he fears falling into it (because it is harmful to his religion) and this is the thing that befalls the people and he loves to know its ruling then there is no problem inquiring.
Concerning in the time of the Prophet ﷺ it was not admissible asking about things that Allah remained silent about. Concerning today’s time that very the Shariah (Islamic Law) is vast, all praise is to Allah. The Shariah is vast and the Ahkaam ( Islamic Rulings) is immense. So if someone asked about Allah’s ruling in any issue from the affairs, he fears that this issue will befall him then there is no problem that he asks about it, there no harm in that.
