Islam’s Finest Binge Of Articles Regarding Ramadan

What is Ramadan and the wording of Siyaam

All Praise due to Allah, He who created for His slaves a season [ Ramadan] for them to get close to Him.  In this season all kinds of obedience. He forgives them of their sins and raises their levels. And I bear witness that there no deity worthy of worship except Allah.   His Rule [His Dominion] which is capable.   The One Who Legislates, which is easy.  He continues to spread upon His slaves from all kinds of piety and blessings.   And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. The first to race to all kinds of good things.  May Allah send upon him all kinds of blessings and upon his family and his companions and those who preserve the obedience of their Lord at all times [ ages].  They are specific in its virtue times with more acts of righteous actions. Send him the best and much salutations of peace.

What follows after:

O people fear Allah the Most High and know that it is obligated upon the Muslim that he worships his Lord and he obeys Him in all stages of his life.  Allah the Most High said:

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ

“And worship your Lord until there comes unto you the certainty (i.e. death).”

 Al Hijra: 99

Some of the Salaf [ predecessor  is an early Muslim of the first three generations of proponents of the Deen ] said: ” It’s not for  the action of the Muslim that his goals  are without death [  end/each of us shall die].”  It is a duty for him that he specified the times for doing the good (Ramadan) with more magnitude and struggle. Indeed Allah made the times for worship double and in it are rewards and blessings more than any other.  And this time is the month of Ramadan which is Blessed and the  Quran was sent down, guidance for the people.  And the evidence from the guidance and al-furqaan [ the truth from falsehood/right and wrong].  O how is the affair of this mighty season.  Verily close around  Ramadan is your blessed friends and nobleness copious.  And they accept  Ramadan with joyousness and happiness.  To thank Allah Him Alone if Ramadan reaches you.  Ask Him that He place on you righteous action in Ramadan. We ask Allah to accept. So verily the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam call on Allah for  Ramadan to reach, Narrated by At-Tabaree and other them him that Anas radi Allahu anhu that the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam that he would call on Allah for Ramadan to reach.  So when the month of Rajab enter he said:” O Allah bless us in Rajab and Shabaan and give us Ramadan”.

Ash-Shaykh Dr. Salih al-Fawzan [ may Allah preserve him].

Define الصيام  As-Siyaam [ Fasting]:  It is the third Pillar from the Pillars of al- Islam. Indeed Allah Glorified is He and the Most High made it Fard [ that which is obligatory] upon the Muslim nation. Just as He made it Fard upon the nation previously.  Just as His saying the Most High:

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious – See V.2: 2).

It was made an obligation in the second year of al- Hijrah calendar. Verily the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam fasted eight Ramadaan, then he passed away sallahu wa alayhi wa salam.   [ Sharh  Shaykh Fawzan from Bulugu al-Maraam , the chapter of Siyaam].

Ash-Shaykh Dr. Salih al-Fawzan further  stated in ‘ Al-Mulakas al-Fiqhi’:

The wisdom in the legislative Fast [ of al-Islam]:

That it is a purification for oneself and makes one pure and cleanse from common bad and ills, and evil manners [ minor and major sins { like backbiting, fornication, slandering, lying etc}]. Because it narrows the way of the Shaytan in the body of the mankind. Because the Shaytan he travels in the veins of the son of Adam [ mankind], and when you eat or drink it stretch out one’s desires.   It weakens one’s will and desire. He does little acts of worship.  So Siyaam [ fasting] is the opposite of that.  In the fasts, it pushes away the worldly life and the desires for it, and the Siyaam [ fasting] makes one desire the Hear-after.

In an impulse of sympathy for the poor and feel their pains. So when the one who is fasting taste from the pains of hunger and thirst because the fasts in legislative [ Shariah: Islamic Law] is to restrain [ from food and drink and sex and evil deeds] with Niya [ intentions ] on a specific thing from eating and drinking and sexual relationship [e.g one spouse]. And other than that from what is present  in the Islamic Legislation  and what follows that is:

  •  Restraining from the sexual relationship

  • All type of corruptions [evil deeds]
