Q & A Shaykh Salih al Fawzan ‘ A Young Man Who is Newly Married had Intercourse During the Day Hours of the Fast of Ramadan Five Times, One Time each Day ‘


Q: Questioner asking there is a young man newly married before Ramadan, and he had intercourse with his wife during the day hours of the fast five times, one time each day, so what is upon him?


A: Upon him is Kaffarah (atonement for breaking the fast 1.) for each day he broke his fast by intercourse, he must fast two months consecutive for each day ( 10 months fasting consecutively), that youth is diligent mashallah, he is an adult who knows right from wrong and who is able to fast .

1.What Nullifies the fast, and the obligation of Al-Qada [make up the fast] and Kaffarah [making atonement for uttering committing an unlawful thing in Islam]. That is a person perform intercourse.
In the Hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu said:

” A man [Salma bin Sakhir] came to the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I am ruined.’ He replied, ‘I had intercourse with m wife during Ramadan.’ He then asked him:
‘ Can you get a slave to free?’
He said ‘No!’ He asked:
‘Can you fast two consecutive months?’
He said ‘No!’ He asked:
‘Can you provide food for sixty poor people?’
He said ‘No!’ He then sat down. Meanwhile, an Araq [ a basket containing thirty Saa’ of dates] containing dates was brought to the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam.

He said: ‘Give this as Sadaqa’.

The man said, ‘ Am I to give to the one who is more poorer than we are? There is no family between the two mountains of Al- Madinah- more in need of it than mine.’ The Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam there upon laughed till his premolar teeth appeared. He then said, ‘ Go and feed your family with it’.”

Narrated al Jamaa’ah and the Narration Ibn Maja and Abu Dawud: -At the position of the day is discredit and the fast is lost, it must be repeated.

And Kaffarah [making atonement] in the accordance the order mention in the Hadeeth that all scholars Agree Upon.
