All the praise is for Allah, and blessing and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah.
Question and Answer from Islamic Web (Arabic Version of the site) Prohibition of Congratulation a Day or two Days before the Eid Prayer.
Question:
It’s spread between the people via modern means of social communication (media) in these days and ages that it is not permissible greetings and blessings (congratulating each other) before the festival of Eidu al-Fitrah or Eidu Al-Adha before the Eid’s (festival) prayer, so is this correct? Is there proof against the permissible or without permissible of this action. May you advice me and may Allah reward you.
Answer:
All praise is for Allah, and blessing, and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah and his family and his companions, concerning what follows: For we do not stand against the proof that prohibits congratulation before the Eid’s prayer, it came in an answer from Shaykh Utheymeen may Allah have mercy upon him:
“Congratulation with the Eid, indeed congratulating happen from some of the companions may Allah be pleased with them. Suppose that congratulating did not take place, so indeed congratulating is now from the normal affairs which are from the people habits, congratulating each other reaching Eid and completing the fast and standing for prayers.”
So the Shaykh he made it from the affairs which congratulation is the customs of the people, with reaching Eid and completing the fast…..
It was asked to the Eminence Shaykh Alamah (learnt Scholar) Salih al Fawzan may Allah preserve him – question’s text – :
“Spread between the people in these days, messages from the cell phones implicating the prohibition of congratulation with Eid a day or two days before the Eid and that it is bidah (innovation in the religion of Islam), so your Eminence what is your opinion? Shaykh Salih al Fawzan’s answer: I do not know this speech, those spreading it, neither do I know of its origin, so the congratulation is permitted on the day of Eid and the day after Eid is permitted. Concerning before the day of Eid, neither do I know that it took place this congratulation (of each other) from the salaf that they did not congratulate before the day of Eid, how do one congratulate each other and it did not happen yet (the event), the congratulation (of each other) be on the day of Eid or the day after Eid, with that also there is no evidence against it…. ”
It is clear from some of the present narrations about congratulation that some of the salaf they did it after Salah (the Eid’s prayer ), so very came in al-Mugna of Ibn Qadamah he said: and mention Ibn Aqeel about the Eid’s congratulation the hadeeths related to it: that Muhammad son of Ziyaad, he said:
I was with Abu Amaamah al-Bahile and other than him from the companions of the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam and that was known when they return from the Eid he said to one another: تقبل الله منا و منكم taqabala-llahu mina wa minkum may Allah accept from us and all of you, and Ahmed said the hadeeth chain Abu Amaamah narration is good. Also said Ali son of Thabit said, I asked Maalik son of Anas since thirty five years, and he continues to say it is know in al Madinah.
In the Sunan al-Bayhaqe: related to Khalid son of Mudaan he said: I meet Wathilah son of Alasqa’ on the day of Eid and I said: تقبل الله منا و منك may Allah accept from us and you and he said: نعم تقبل الله منا و منك yes may Allah accept from us and from you, he said Wathilah:
I met the Messenger of Allah sallahu wa alyhi salam the day of Eid so I said تقبل الله منا و منك may Allah accept from us and you, and so he said: نعم تقبل الله منا و منك yes may Allah accept from us and you.
So we are not against the prohibition regarding the congratulation (of each other) before the (Eid) prayer just as we pointed it out or specified it as what is after the Salah, or other than it, and Allah knows best.
