Question & Answer By Shaykh Saleh Luhaidan may Allah preserve him ” Does one enters the Masjid for Salahtul Jumah and prays two Rakat while the Khateeb (speaker) is on the Mimbar (pulpit), or just sit down”
Question: Do you leave off Tahiyatul Masjid (two rakats prayed when greeting and entering the masjid) while the Imam is upon the mimbar (pulpit)?
Answer: No. He doesn’t leave off Tahiyatul Masjid and you pray it while the imam is giving the sermon. A man enter while the Prophet sallahu wa alayhi wa salam was giving a sermon so he sat, so the Prophet (sallahu wa alyhi wa salam) said: ” did you not pray two rakaats?” so he said (replied) “no”, so he said to him “stand and pray” so he prayed two rakat.
So the correct and strongest view with the people of knowledge (scholars of Islam) that he who enters while the imam is giving the sermon that he prays two rakaats before he sits down.
