A Sign of the Final Hour...the Prophet, may Allah praise him, said:

Meaning: The Final Hour will not be established until you witness the scarcity of knowledge, and an increase in earthquakes (natural calamities), and time (seemingly) constricts, and Fitnah becomes widespread and apparent and homicide becomes more common. (Sahih al-Bukhari)

Contemplating these signs, a clear pattern emerges…each point in this hadeeth leads to the point after it…let’s start from the ‘bottom up’…

a. Homicide and indiscriminate killing happens more frequently in the midst of a Fitnah (time of confusion, strife, calamity).

b. With Fitnah it would seem so much happens within a short period of time…time constricts…the Barakah of time is lost.

c. Fitnah and sins are among the reasons why natural calamities occur more frequently. In fact, Imam Ahmed, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

Meaning: I found a pouch of wheat grains in one of the safe deposit houses of Bani Umayyah; the size of each wheat grain was equal to a date stone! On the outside of the pouch, it was written: “This was harvested during the era of justice”. The point here is that sins have an affect upon the physical realm that we are able to see and witness…we ask Allah to protect us from all evil. Ameen!

d. The source of all evil is ignorance…Allah, the Exalted, says:
Meaning: Say, “My Lord has forbidden immoralities – what is apparent of them and what is concealed – and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down authority, and that you say about Allah that which you do not know.”
If we follow the same principle with this verse, as we have with the above Hadeeth, each sin is linked to the one before it; the conclusion that can be witnessed is that speaking without knowledge is the source of all evil.

We seek refuge with Allah and ask Him to grant us success in this life and in the next. Ameen!
