All the praises is for Allah the Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon His Chosen Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his companions all of them.

By the Student of Knowledge, Shaykh Abdurrahman Murad هداه الله

Although today the study of the Four Madth’hab is taught successfully in a curriculum format, with an academic approach…it seems more than ever before people are distanced from the practice of our beloved Prophet, may Allah praise him.

Now let me explain…with many Hadeeth, when their is a command, an encouragement to do something, people tend to ask ‘Is this actually a Wajib or Sunnah?’ or they may say, ‘Although the hadeeth is authentic what did this Imam or that Imam say about it?’

Of course, there is nothing wrong in asking these questions for the sake of knowledge…but if this is all we get from the proof and we then simply discard the hadeeth afterwards…what form of love do you actually profess for the Prophet, may Allah praise him?

Look at the Companions, may Allah praise them all…when they were informed of a path of goodness, a means to greater reward, they wouldn’t hesitate. They wouldn’t ask the Prophet…is this required or simply an option!
Let’s get back to this…and uphold it in our lives…to me this is the key element to success.

Allah, the Exalted, says: “deaf, dumb, and blind: they will never return [to the right path].”
It seems that at times when you mention a Hadeeth, some will downright and immediately reject it. And if you are to ask them, ‘why?’ they will say: ‘we don’t know about it; therefore, we stick with the Qur’an…only our Imams can “crack the code” of the Hadeeth.’ In essence what they are saying is ‘we reject the Hadeeth and would rather follow the statements of scholars’.

Now, no matter how this sounds, I am not advocating in any way that we shun Madth’hab…actually, it is extremely important that we do learn through a “Madth’hab” approach. At the same time, when we are presented with a Hadeeth that is authentic…we should act more like the Companions. Their attitude was ‘سمعنا وأطعنا” we hear and obey. They never questioned…is this Waajib or Sunnah. Is it Makrooh or Haram! They never suspended applying a Hadeeth for issues like this!

This group of people who reject the hadeeth in this subtle fashion remind me of a group whom the Prophet, may Allah praise him, warned us against. He said:
Meaning: “Let me not find/hear of an individual who is lounging and when a command of my commands is given to him/made known to him, he would simply dismiss it by saying: ‘I don’t know about this! We shall only follow what we find in the Book of Allah.’” (Tirmidthi #2663 – Authenticated by Imam Al-Albani, may Allah have mercy on him).

May Allah protect us all…Ameen!
