All the praises is for Allah the Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon His Chosen Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his companions all of them.

According to Islamic teachings, women have the following rights:
1. They have the right to a good education (this doesn’t mean only nursing and teaching!)
2. They have the right to own their own property (house/apartment, etc.).
3. They have the right to work (as an employee or own a trade/business). All her earnings belong to her exclusively…she is not even required to ‘pitch-in’ to take care of ‘family’ expenses with her husband…what she earns belongs to her alone, a…nd she is free to do as she pleases with what she has! If a husband even borrows from his wife, he is required to pay it back.
4. Women have the right to express their views and opinions and have their voices heard in all levels of society.
5. Women are not to be mistaken as ‘maids’. House duties (of all kinds) are a shared responsibility between both husband and wife.
6. Women are not required to take care of their in-laws.
7. Husbands are required to provide a separate living space for their wives that are secure, private and healthy for family growth.
8. Women have the right to Nafaqah (provisions) from the husband. If the husband doesn’t give this, the wife has the right to take it even without his knowledge.
9. Women have the right to negotiate terms in their marriage and have the choice to reject someone who has come forth to get married to her.
10.Women have the right to obtain ‘Khul’ (instant divorce) from their husband, for a reason as simple as her not being able to stand him! Of course, divorce is a last resolution and is resorted to when all else fails in a marriage.
11. A woman has the right to set up a pre-nuptial agreement with her husband if she deems this to be warranted.
12. Women have the right to get custody of her children in case of divorce.
13. Women have the right to re-marry after divorce or after becoming widow.
SINCE MANY HAVE ASKED…EACH OF THESE POINTS ARE SUBSTANTIATED WITH EVIDENCE FROM QUR’AN AND SUNNAH…but since this is a facebook post, I see no need to elaborate into great detail. The example of our Messenger from the Seerah stands as the greatest evidence to these beautiful ethics!
We ask Allah to make us among those who are blessed with knowledge… Ameen!
