Question:
Salam, could you explain the game meat (hunting) how to do it?
Answer:
In terms of how to hunt…I think I am the last person you should ask in relation to this…as I have “0” experience in hunting!
That said…I don’t think you want my tips on how to hunt, where to hunt, or what to hunt…what you want more specifically are rulings and guidelines that touch on hunting itself…since we no longer hunt with traditional methods…and more or less use sho…t-guns and rifles…the question of ‘how’ is all the more important!
The Ulama (scholars) indicate that you should say ‘Bismillah’ (I begin with the name of Allah) and then fire at the animal (in season — of course). If it dies from the shot, it would become Halal. If you catch it while it is still alive, then you should slaughter it properly as we mentioned in the course.
In relation to using traps, and poison darts…etc., it is best avoided and not used, as it causes unnecessary pain to the animal.
Remember the words of the Prophet, may Allah praise him…he said: “If you are kind to a sheep, Allah shall show you mercy!”
There are many other conditions that relate to hunting…but based on the question, I believe these are the most important ones that would relate to an average hunter.
