All the praises is for Allah the Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon His Chosen Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his companions all of them.

Question:

Are we allowed to wear eczema cream with alcohol in it?

Answer:

The alcohol in these creams, are not the drinkable type that clouds your judgment and blocks your thought process…in short, if you drink isopropyl, or denatured alcohols, they won’t make you drunk…they will kill you!
So when we speak of ‘alcohol’…what are we referring to? We are speaking of one specific type; ETHANOL. This type of alcohol blocks/clouds one’s judgment, rational thinking and logic. It provokes one to behave in an obscene manner at best!

On a side note…those of you who attended the course will be able to recall what I said…just because something is sterile in nature, doesn’t mean it is pure in Islam.
An example of this is urine…it is sterile (when not fused with bacteria) and in WW2, it was used as an antiseptic…the darker the better. Although, this is its nature…it doesn’t mean it is pure in Islam. We separate between these two concepts.
Ethyl-Alcohol is similar to this…although sterile in nature, it is not considered pure in Islam (according to the stronger opinion).
