All the praises is for Allah the Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon His Chosen Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his companions all of them.

Spread of Fitnah #1: Subhanallah…one of the Hadeeth that is often repeated today by extremist groups is:
لقد جئتكم بالذبح
‘I have come to slaughter you’ (literal translation)

I’m sure you may have heard it, whether it be from a video on yahoo.com or maybe even by word of mouth…So what does it mean?

Before we even look at this narration with an in-depth clarification…let me say one thing…those who repeat this narration, make it seem as though Islam is a faith that is intolerant…a faith that is structured upon the foundation of shedding blood…a faith that incites hatred and terror. A’oodhtubillah. In reality, the terror, extremist views and ideas, and hateful thoughts and sentiment are only hall-marks of the deviated Khariji ideology! Whether the ‘Khawarij of today’ realize or not, they are playing right into the hands of non-Muslims; they are provoking public opinion against peaceful, innocent Muslims. In’na lil’laahi wa in’na e’laihi ra’jioon.

Islam is innocent of this vile and evil ideology.

That said, let’s look at the narration…”I have come to slaughter you”…is it authentic? It definitely is authentic…and it was said in Makkah, before the Hijrah. This in itself is an important point that we should consider.
Now, the other important aspect of this narration is its meaning…what does it mean? As with any verse of the Quran or Prophetic Tradition, in order for us to understand it, we have to look at the reason it was said and the story behind it. When we know this, we can better understand the meaning of this text. The story is mentioned in Musnad Ahmed (11/610)…it states that the Prophet, may Allah praise him, was harmed (verbally) and repetitively by Quraish and the Prophet, may Allah praise him, then said:
“O (heads of) Quraish, I have come to you with a slaughter!” When the heads of Quraish heard this, they suddenly fell silent, it was as though birds could land on their heads (due to their silence and stillness) they then told the Prophet, may Allah praise him: “Please go in safety/peace. By Allah, you have never oppressed anyone or wronged them.”
They realized the Prophet, may Allah praise him, had the ability to invoke a curse upon them for he had that connection to Allah; if he so wished, he could make dua and destroy them.
The next day some of the bold men from Quraish came and began in the most rough way yelling at the Prophet, may Allah praise him, asking him about what he had said, and when Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, saw this…he rushed towards the Prophet, may Allah praise him, and said: “Woe to you, would you kill someone who states that his God is Allah!”
