Do you have to slaughter the animal of your hunting dog?

All the praises is for Allah the Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon His Chosen Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his companions all of them.

Question:

I want clarity of the hunting- when the dog brings your game, do you still have to slaughter it- meaning if its alive, would you cut the throat. And what about the situation when the game is dead.

Answer:

The answer to this is in the hadeeth of our beloved Prophet, may Allah praise him: “If you send your trained hunting dog forth to capture prey and you have mentioned Allah’s name, then eat from it. But if you have sent an untrained dog and it captures prey for you and you are able to catch up the animal before it dies and then slaughter it, it becomes lawful for you.”
In one narration: “If you send your trained hunting dogs and they hold on to prey for you you can eat from it, even if it kills the prey, you can eat it.”
