All the praises is for Allah the Lord of the Worlds and peace and blessings be upon His Chosen Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his companions all of them.

Indeed an amazing narration…although it is very weak, it really is scary how accurately it depicts ISIS, A’oodthubillah…each time I read it, it sends a shiver up my spine!
Meaning: Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “When you see the (group carrying the) black flags, remain in your places (i.e. don’t join them).
Do not move your hands or your feet (towards them with even a ‘keystroke’ or sympathize with them)!
Indeed a downtrodden people who are emotionally charged, whose hearts are like sheets of iron (i.e. they are emotionless) would emerge as the supporters of the ‘Dawlah’ (i.e. the State).
They would never uphold a treaty or a pledge, they call to the truth but do not uphold it.
Their names are Kuna (i.e. Abu so and so) and they attribute themselves to Qura (cities).
Their hair is let to grow (and appears like women’s hair).
They would remain as one, until they fight among themselves and Allah will give the Haqq (victory) to whomever He wills.”
Point of Interest:
a. The Prophet, may Allah praise him, said: “Do not move your hands or feet” which would indicate that one shouldn’t even sympathize with this group with a keystroke!
b. The reference made in this narration is to the ‘Dawlah’, today ISIS calls itself Dawlah or the Islamic State.
c. The rest of the qualities mentioned in this narration are found among those who support that group!
Subhanallah…may Allah protect us from this Fitnah! Ameen
It was asked, is this narration or Ali رضي الله عنه or the Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم ?
The answer by Shaykh Abdurrahmann Murd حفظه الله :
Such statements cannot be said without them having a link to the Prophet, but because the narration is extremely weak, we simply attribute it to the companion in the narration. When narrated, it should as well be narrated with the indication that it is weak. That said, a weak Hadeeth is not necessarily a false one (in terms of meaning). There are Hadeeth that are weak in terms of the Isna (chain of narration) but are strong in terms of their meanings. This appears to be of this class, and Allah knows best.
