Friday Jumuah’s Khutbah: Stop Displaying your Women’s Pictures on Social Media!

Summary of the Khutbah:

 Do not put pictures of my family on Facebook or any other social network.

Allah states in Quran that which translated into English :

الرِّجَالُ قَوَّامُونَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَبِمَا أَنفَقُوا مِنْ أَمْوَالِهِمْ ۚ فَالصَّالِحَاتُ قَانِتَاتٌ حَافِظَاتٌ لِّلْغَيْبِ بِمَا حَفِظَ اللَّهُ ۚ وَاللَّاتِي تَخَافُونَ نُشُوزَهُنَّ فَعِظُوهُنَّ وَاهْجُرُوهُنَّ فِي الْمَضَاجِعِ وَاضْرِبُوهُنَّ ۖ فَإِنْ أَطَعْنَكُمْ فَلَا تَبْغُوا عَلَيْهِنَّ سَبِيلًا ۗإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيًّا كَبِيرًا

“Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient (to Allah and to their husbands), and guard in the husband’s absence what Allah orders them to guard (e.g. their chastity, their husband’s property). As to those women on whose part you see ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat them (lightly, if it is useful); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them means (of annoyance). Surely, Allah is Ever Most High, Most Great. “

( سورة النساء , An-Nisa, Chapter #4, Verse #34)

Part or protections and protecting your women and children from malicious of all types. Allah states in another verse :

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلَائِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُونَ اللَّهَ مَا أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ

{O! You who believe, save yourself and your families from Hell-fire, whose fuel are humans and stones (idols)…} (At-Tahrim 66: 6)

So as Muslim men we’re the protector of our women and children. With saying this, we watch our families in the streets and in the home, to make sure they are safe. We provide a home for them to keep them safe and sound. We teach them Islam to keep their beliefs safe and sound and will push away harm when we see it.

In Chapter 24 known as an-Nur (the Light), in verse 30, Allah commands Prophet Muhammad as follows:

قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ يَغُضُّوْا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَ يَحْفَظُوْا فُرُوْجَهُمْ, ذَلِكَ أَزْكَى لَهُمْ.

“Say to the believing men that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste). This is better for them.”

Then in the next verse, Allah commands the Prophet to address the women:

قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَ يَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوْجَهُنَّ…

“Say to the believing women that: they should cast down their glances and guard their private parts (by being chaste)…”

After speaking about lowering one gaze, came the order describing the dress code for women:

وَ لاَ يُبْدِيْنَ زِيْنَتَهُنَّ إِلاَّ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَ لْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلىَ جُيُوْبِهِنَّ…

“…and not display their beauty except what is apparent, and they should place their khumur over their bosoms…”

In Chapter 33 known as al-Ahzab, verse 59, Allah gives the following command to Prophet Muhammad:

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ, قُلْ لأَزْوَاجِكَ وَ بَنَاتِكَ وَ نِسآءِ الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ: يُدْنِيْنَ عَلَيْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلاَبِيْبِهِنَّ…

“O Prophet! Say to your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers that: they should let down upon themselves their jalabib.”

Men who have diseases in their heart for women:

يَا نِسَاءَ النَّبِيِّ لَسْتُنَّ كَأَحَدٍ مِّنَ النِّسَاءِ ۚ إِنِ اتَّقَيْتُنَّ فَلَا تَخْضَعْنَ بِالْقَوْلِ فَيَطْمَعَ الَّذِي فِي قَلْبِهِ مَرَضٌ وَقُلْنَ قَوْلًا مَّعْرُوفًا

“O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner. “

(سورة الأحزاب, Al-Ahzaab, Chapter #33, Verse #32)

Now I have a question for you, would you allow all in the public put a camera in every room in your house and car? The answer will be NO! Would you allow this camera at least go into your bathroom? The answer will be double NO! Would you allow this camera at least into your bed room? Their answer will be I will hit you just for asking! ..NO!

Then when you post pictures of your wife, and your children, and your life events you bring the eyes of the public in all your business. A person who you never meet, he knows now how your wife looks like, how your children looks like. A stranger, every time you post picture on the internet , even if only your friends can see you do not know who in your friends house looking at your pictures and the disease that men have in their hearts for women, eyes enter upon your home and see you and every thing you value and that which is valuable.

I will ask my brothers to think twice before they post pictures of their women and kids on Facebook and especially their women. Because every one will have eyes on them. So much so, I meet a Muslim man in the internet cafe looking at a brother wife pictures on facebook. So much so the brother founded a way to fornicate with this woman who was married. You might think this my brother in Islam but you have no idea what is in the heart of the next man. No matter how tough or smart , or man you think you are, you can not control another man’s heart.

Next the Messenger of Allah sallahu wa alayhi wa salam told Aisha the mothers of the believers when one of his companion  come to his home and he was blind, for her to cover correct and she said, he can not see, he reply sallahu wa alayhi wa salam but you can see.

In another narration he describe men who allow their women to go outside not cover proper as Dayooth(1) this in Arabic means a pimp, meaning a person who allow any man to look at his women.

So much so when we have guess in our home as Muslims it is known the men do not sit with the women. The women in one part of the home while men are in the other. This is known to kill fitnah, while enjoying the company of Muslims and keeping tides. Without intermingling between the sexes. When your picture online, think about it, he spends hours on top of hours and months online for the public to view, to each computer it reaches and whoever in the room see it, and every one can see and download it and save it. No matter what restrictions you put on your page. We live in an age of technology and we can by pass those restrictions.

There a word in Arabic it Mutabarija the women who display them selves, there many forms of mutabarijah even if the women is cover, like talking to men that not her mahram even in small talk, also mixing with men even if she cover, is a form of Mutabarija. Now do you think if you display your wife online for the public even if your wife is pious,do not mix with men, cover her self proper and you display her online for every eyes of men to see, you are making her Mutabarija we ask Allah for Pardon.

This is a word of advice for my brothers out there, that they think twice before they post picture of their women and family even if they are wearing Hijab. So much so because they wear hijab be better reason not to post it online. Because Hijab cover the women guard her, because your wife wear Hijab would you let he go and mix with men? Answer is NO, if your wife wear hijab, would you let her work in a all men sport club, answer is no, If your wife wear hijab would you put here in public for display their answer is NO! So do not display her online.

جاء في الحديث : ( ثلاثة لا ينظر اللّه عزّ وجلّ إليهم يوم القيامة : العاقّ لوالديه ، والمرأة المترجّلة ، والدّيّوث )- رواه النسائي ( 2561 ) ، وصححه الألباني في ” صحيح سنن النسائي ” – . انتهى .

As stated in a Hadeeth there are three who Allah Az wa Jala will not look at them on the day of Judgement, The one who disobey his parent, a woman acts like a man, and a Dayooth(the man who display his wife, and does not care if she wear hijab or not (a Pimp)) narration recorded by Anesaee and Shaykh al Banni  authenticated it.

We fear our SSI number and bank information being stolen online, but we do not fear the privacy and honor or our women and children.

1. Do you know what is a الديوث “dayyouth” ?
   Dayyouth is  the man who approves the indecency of the women in his family (who doesn’t care whether they cover up with Hijab or not, whether they mix freely with men or not, e.t.c.) , who is void of gheerah for them (protective jealousy) or  the pimp who facilitates indecency between two people.
   Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alyhi wasallam) said :”Allah has forbidden the Paradise to three people: the alcoholic, the runaway slave, and the الديوث [one who is complacent (pleased/satisfied) in the face of the evil deeds that his family is doing – meaning he doesn’t care].”
   (Sahih al-Jami # 3047)
